Pharmaceutical Logistics Association of South Africa.
THE ESSENTIAL LINK IN HEALTHCARE DELIVERY.
Distributors
Act as manufacturers’ agents providing 3PL services. As agents Distributors never own their principals’ products. Distributors provide bulk pre-wholesaling function.
Wholesalers
Provide Full-line or Short-line functions. Wholesalers purchase stock and take ownership of the products they sell. Wholesalers provide last mile delivery function.
Logistics Service Providers
Provide services between suppliers, manufacturers, distributor, retailers and end-users in the supply chain.
“A product is only a ‘good’ if it is in the right place at the right time; otherwise, it is merely inventory. Logistics is the art of transforming stagnant inventory into active value by conquering the physical gap between where a product is made and where it is needed.”
Channels of the distribution exist to move products from the manufacturer to the consumer.
